Great atmosphere and good music combine to make 3 Speed at 1163 Bloor St. West a go to spot for casual dates or drinks.
What is most notable about 3 Speed is its décor and atmosphere. The exposed brick and leather bar stools are super chic and is tempered nicely by mismatched lamps, chalkboard menus, and patio lights in the window that give the restaurant/bar a smooth vibe. The banquette seats are close and cozy, which make it perfect for date night. The music selection is exemplary, ranging from old school jazz to Motown with the occasional indie rock favorite thrown in for good measure. Bands like the Jetset Motel play at 3speed regularly, and a house DJ spins on Wednesday nights.
The menu is divided into three “speeds”: high, medium, and low, to differentiate price and quantity as well as a daily specials board. There is a solid selection on tap, from old favorites like Guinness and Mill St., to the bar’s own 3 Speed Lager; bottles are priced at domestic for $5 and imported at $5.50.
In addition, the bar also makes signature infused liquors; however on this particular occasion, there were none to be had so a simple vodka tonic – which was well made nonetheless – had to suffice.
Food is simple and not exceptionally notable. The pasta with anchovy was fairly over seasoned with basics like salt and pepper, and the tasting platter was well stocked, but not terribly exciting. However, the service was excellent, and at $50 for two people on a rainy Friday night, you can’t really go wrong.
